Mortal Kombat 1: Kombat Pack Roster Revealed

After several gameplay trailers, Nether Realm Studios recently released exciting news.

As part of the DLC Kombat pack Roster, six playable characters will be available. Peacemaker from the DC Universe, Homelander from the Boys and Omni-Man from Robert Kirkman’s Invincible will be appearing in the game. Along with that, returning characters of the franchise, such as Ermac, Quan Chi, and Takeda Takahashi, will have a presence too.

The most notable additions to the pack are Peacemaker from the critically acclaimed DC tv show written by James Gunn and Homelander from Amazon’s The Boys tv series. Omni-Man has garnered popularity after his debut in Amazon’s animated Invincible show. In addition to the hype, several news outlets have confirmed that J. K. Simmons will be voicing Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1.

J. K. Simmons has been a fan-favourite artist with stellar performances in his career. In many ways, he has become a beloved personality and pop culture icon in the truest sense.

Frenzied fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise have already sparked discussions online. Especially generating buzz around as to how Omni-Man, Homelander and Peacemaker’s fighting styles will be incorporated into the game. Fatalities have been an integral part of the Mortal Kombat franchise. It will be a captivating experience to watch these Superman-esque characters clash.

It is natural to draw parallels between Homelander and Omni-Man, as both are known to be ruthless heavy hitters unbound by traditional superhero moral quandaries. Homelander is a psychologically unhinged superhero created by Vought and is feared by almost everyone in the Boys franchise. Omni-Man, on the other hand, hails from a superior alien species that specializes in the craft of war known as Viltrumites. He is a seasoned soldier sent to conquer the Earth as part of the Viltrumite Empire’s conquest.

By analyzing character traits, perhaps we can predict the fighting style of these combatants.

Homelander’s move set would be akin to a brawler or an amateur fighter because he is known to rely primarily on his powers instead of practicing or honing his combat style. Meanwhile, Omni-Man’s move set would be more diverse and perhaps akin to an experienced soldier because Viltrumites are a species that indulge in war. Their species believe in the “survival of the fittest” ideology, so Omni-Man would be more perceptive of an opponent’s fighting techniques and would be more comfortable in having adaptive as well counter-assault maneuvers at his disposal.

Peacemaker, on the other hand, would lean on dissing out focused, succinct blows while relying heavily on his technologically advanced assortment of weapons. He is also one of the morally grey characters bordering on the anti-hero territory, unlike Homelander and Omni-Man.

For video game players, this year is an exciting journey as highly anticipated games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Starfield, Assassins Creed Mirage and many more will be arriving on various gaming platforms.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on the gaming consoles: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC on September 19, 2023.
